Quick Update!

Super tired today from cleaning and moving stuff around. After finally finishing all the painting on our pantry, I've decided to rearrange everything in preparation to start making videos. I still have a ton of stuff to move, but today was a good start.

Along with all the moving I managed to get this guy finished! He is a test figure for a couple of these robot guys that look very similar as well as a larger model. This guy is a DevaBot from the ALEPH group in the Infinity game. I've got one more like him and then three more that are similar, but with some additions.

Not many figures left in this set. With the 4 other robot guys, I've got a larger model, and four single figures. Since League of Legends games are done till Wednesday, I've got Sunday through Tuesday to get as much done as I can so I can enjoy the games.

After all these figures, then I have to paint the numbers on some Dreadball minis and I should be done with my big commission.

Time for some sleep...

Till next time!

Super Art Hype!

Wow! These past few days have been pretty crazy and it's not going to stop anytime soon. Tons of painting has been done this week, though not much of it was on figures. I did a few little things here and there. Some quick base paints on some Infinity miniatures, but nothing really note worthy. The figures are primed grey and I'm layering more grey on top. Meh.

But! The fanart that I worked on this week more than made up for the colors. League of Legends was having a fanart contest that finished today and I only just managed to get mine submitted in time. I was cutting it a little close on the deadline because for some reason I saw the time on the deadline and thought it meant 11:59 pm Wednesday. Nope! 12:59 pm PST Wednesday which is 3:59 pm for me. I had to stay up till 5 am to get a ton of stuff done and then wake up early to finish it in time.

Here is a WIP shot of the fanart at the beginning. There are no colors on the characters and no background details, but this shows mainly the composition. When the contest is completely over I will post a final version.

I got it done and submitted in time to have a quick break and then watch the League of Legends Worlds Preshow at 4:00 pm today! The show kicked off the Worlds games that are going to start Thursday at 5:00 am. I am only going to wake up for TSM's first game at 6 am and then another at 10 am. I will also be working on minis during the laning phase of the matches since they are a little slower as far as things happening.

More minis for Saturday's post!

Till next time!

A Monday Post! Must be a #MiniatureMonday

And it is! Last week I was on Twitter and a few people that I follow started talking about a MinitureMonday Speed Paint Challenge. I was immediately interested it doing it, though I had some reservations about the Reaper Bones figure which everyone had to work with.

The Challenge!

Take Finaela, Female Elf Pirate from the Reaper Bones line, 7 colors + Black and White, and you have 4 hours. Ready, set, GO!

My Paints!

The two WIP shots I was able to grab before I got lost in painting the figure. They show the black prime and the purple under painting that was done for the mini. I decided right away that I didn't want to use black paint in any of my color mixes and picked the dark purple to be my shade color. The first picture shows the finished skin minus the tint on the lips and the next shows some work on the hair, swords, and the red areas.

My final figure! 7 colors + B/W and 3 hours.

This figure really was a challenge from the start. On Twitter the figure is posted on #MiniatureMonday and then you have a week to get the figure done to post the finished one on the next #MiniatureMonday. Of course I go to our game store, Phantom of the Attic, every Sunday, so to do the challenge I would have to grab the figure and finish it the same day to complete the challenge. Rather crazy.

Since I had a week with nothing to do for the challenge, I spent it trying to figure out the colors that I was going to use. This was one of the biggest parts of the challenge for me, since I love lots of colors in my minis. I use layers of colors and washes to get some awesome results. I decided early on that in order to get what I wanted, I would have to not use the washes.

I'm actually really happy with this figure. I think it came out beautiful with all of is vibrant colors and the overall purple shading. I can't wait to do the next one!

The picture of Finaela at the top was taken by @Mocha_Minis. Awesome painter with a great blog! Check out the blog at Mocha Minis!

My awesome wet palette at the end!

It's Sunday... What happened to Saturday?!

Alright, the figures had been finished, the pictures had been taken, and the images moved to the computer, but something happened afterwards which lead to other stuff, which lead to me turning the computer off before bed and then only just remembering that I needed to post the figures for the week...

Argh! I couldn't believe it! I turned the computer off to go to bed at like 1 AM and only then realized it. I was like, "Whoops! It's too late now, might as well save it for tomorrow."

Now it's not a huge update since this week has been spent working on some digital painting as well as a Dark Angel Ravenwing test figure, which is killing me, but it's still a couple figures finished.

First up is the Infinity Chandra Spec Ops figure. I had a wonderful time painting this figure as it seemed to just come together quickly. I have a front and back picture of this one because I just loved it so much! I like this particular group in the Infinity line since it's mainly grays and cream with a hint of purple-pink. Much fun was had in this mini.

This guy is the second Infinity Deva Functionary that I've painted. Fairly standard paint for this group though I did like the different skin tone and the green blue in the cracks.

For the rest of the week, I should more than likely have a post on Monday for a speed paint challenge mini. I might hold it off till Saturday, but I'm not sure. Crazy schedules going on this week since I have some wall painting to do Monday and Tuesday, I have the fanart due for the contest before Wednesday, and Thursday at 6 AM is the first game of the League of Legends Worlds final tournament that I want to watch. I'm rooting for Team SoloMid so I want to try to catch all their games. 6 games total this week for them, all at different times in the morning. Stupid Asian time schedules.

Oh well! Till next time!

WIP Wednesday - Infinity and Cyriss

My WIP for the week is a little on the small size. I've been working on a digital painting for most of the week and I really don't want to share it. The painting is for a contest and so I'm probably not going to post it till the contest is done and winners picked.

So first up is an Infinity figure, Chandra Spec-Ops. She is one of 3 that I'm going to be working on this week and is the one that will be finished on Saturday.

Last for the week are two Cyriss Reflex Servitors that I've been working on. They are at the stage where I can add all the actual color. Will most likely be done this Saturday as well since I'll paint them during the League of Legends Spring Promotional games on Thursday.

Small update, like I said, but an update all the same!

Till next time!

Finished in time for Sunday gaming!

Hiyas all!

Today, like usual, was a mad scramble to get stuff done for Sunday. I managed to get several big things done and while a couple aren't up to the standard that I would like, they are totally table ready. That's all we needed for tomorrow for our 40k game.

First up is our awesome objective marker for our big Sanctus Reach 40k match between the Orks and the Guard/Space Wolves. We picked a strategic information objective marker which had very specific and detailed planz for da fight'n.

Next up are three Killa Kans. These are quick painted, kind of messy and very Ork-like. First one has a Rocket Launcha,

...This one has a Grotzooka,

...and the last one has a Scorcha.

It was a slow week, but next week should pick back up with Infinity figures, some Warmachine Khador, and some digital art or maybe a Dark Angel.

Till next time!

Thoughtful WIP Wednesday!

This week has been rather slow as far as miniatures goes. I found out that I have way more time to finish the commission than I thought. Since I'm currently a month ahead of schedule and we have family coming this week, I decided to take it a little bit easier. We also have a big Warhammer 40k game this Sunday and so I have a few Orks to get done, including an objective marker and 3 Killa Kans.

First up is another Infinity figure. This is another Deva Functionary from the ALEPH group. He is about halfway done, just need more highlights and washes.

Two more ALEPH Infinity figures that I'm going to work on this week. These two are probably not going to be finished till next week since I have to put more work into...

ORKS! This guy is the first Killa Kan I'm working on this week. He is a test figure to get the steps right on how to paint. Basically he has a rough light brown base and some quick dark yellow over top. I'm hoping to get him and the other two down into the airbrush booth here shortly to spray the main yellow color, since yellow is such a pain to paint in large areas.

Finally, I have this little Reaper mini that I've been working on. Nothing too special other than some work with lighting and using a limited palette. She actually started as a test figure for the Knight Models that I worked on. I was trying to get a Chiaroscuro (spelled right on the first try OMG) effect set up to use on the Knight Models, but didn't think I had enough time to get the technique to work.

The technique is where you paint all the values of light and shadow on the figure in black and white and then you paint the colors over top in glazes and transparent layers. The lighting shows through the colors over top and so you tend to get a higher contrast in the colors than if you painted the colors first.

Ana - The Painting Mum has an awesome explanation of it on her blog. Shes a member of the Chest of Colors team so check it out. Since I like learning new techniques, I'll probably do some more Chiaroscuro tests of my own when I don't have all these commissions.

Alright! Another Wednesday has past. For Saturday I should have some nice finished minis and for next Wednesday I will have some WIP of a few digital paintings. I've had one sitting around that I want to work on and League of Legends is having a fanart contest this month that I'm going to enter.

Till next time!
