Shadows of Brimstone Continues!

The Shadows of Brimstone figures continue to get finished. I do have to say besides the basing that will all be done later, most of the figures haven't been sprayed with the Dulcotte yet. There are still several shiny spots where washes have been used. Out of all of these, the undead are the only ones to have been sprayed.

The three up above are on medium bases and they look like Goblin Gremlin crossovers to me, so I've been calling them that. The artwork on the box has them in a green blue, but I decided to keep them mainly in a blue. The colors looked better in my opinion.

These are the undead that have been mostly finished. They have been painted in several off white shades and then given multiple washes in different colors in different spots. After all that, they were then highlighted again in an off white shade. The bases have been painted and the sides finished in black. All that is left is to put some static grass on them.

These red bug looking things were pretty cool to paint. I started with a dark red and highlighted with a brighter red. Next up was a wash of a thinned out blue-purple paint rather than a straight wash. Then more bright red on top followed by red mixed with orange to highlight. Lastly a dark red-purple wash was used to tie all the layers together and give some depth. These guys are bug-like so I gave them completely black eyes.

The three figures above are figures of player characters that can be used in the game. Like most of the other miniatures, I kept with the artwork on the box.

Next up I have three more player character figures, two more sets of 6 monsters, and the two really big monsters.

Till next time!

Shadows of Brimstone Part 2

I have a bunch of Shadows of Brimstone figures done this week including the tentacles and spiders from earlier and several new ones. Everything has been primed and all ready to go for paint. While I still have a good bit of minis to go, all I have left is the painting which won't take as much time as the prep work.

To get started I have the spiders. I got a good image of several spiders and a group shot of all 12 of them put together. I still love their little rubber feet.

Next up are the tentacles. These guys were mostly finished earlier this week other than some base painting and clean up. I still might add some static grass to the bases to change it up some, but for the most part these are done.

Third are these little blue guys. I've been saving the base painting till all the figures are done so other than that, there are two that are done, three that have their base paint done, and one that still needs to be painted.

Lastly for this week are these winged guys. I just have the one done as I was trying to figure out the process to get these painted.

Till next time!

WIP Shadows of Brimstone Monsters

We have more Shadows of Brimstone figures! All of last week and this week have been devoted to these cool little minis. The Apoxie Sculpt that I ordered came in on time and I managed to finish all the last of the gap filling today after getting some of the stuff cleaned up from yesterday. All I have to do is clean up the apoxie on certain minis and then base them. Everything should be all ready for painting tomorrow after Christmas morning.

First up, I have these sea tentacles. The artwork on the box has these guys in various shades of blue so I kept with that. I also used the same ground color as the two painted player characters that were finished on Saturday.

Next up are these little spider guys. The colors on these start with a green base and move up to a very lite grey. There is also a thin wash of Secret Weapon Washes Drying Blood on the mouth for just a hint of color and a little bit of Army Painter Blue Tone in some of the recess areas around the body. The spider minis didn't come with any bases and so I decided to add some little rubber feet to them.

I have a product called Magic Tool that is used to coat metal tools that are used in jewelry making. It pads the metal and protects the jewelry from getting marks. I'm not sure how much it will protect them, but I figured that it wouldn't hurt to dip their toes in the rubber.

I have 12 of these spiders to finish for tonight, but it shouldn't be too bad. More work tonight means more time off tomorrow for Christmas!

Till next time!

Merry Christmas all!

Shadows of Brimstone

A lot of work got done this week and a lot more is still to come. Out of the two boxes of figures I managed to clean all but a hand full and based and primed more than half of that. The only figures that were not primed and based were the few larger miniatures and those require some serious gap filling. I'm going to be getting some new filler on Monday so they will be primed and ready to go as soon as I actually get the sculpt material.

As for the rest, I've started to work on painting and managed to get two of the player figures finished. I might work on the bases a little more, but for now they are good.

These are the two that have been finished and I kept with the artwork from the box as that was easier (and faster) than trying to come up with a new color scheme.

On Sunday, I hope to work on cleaning some Ogres and on Monday I should be starting to paint some awesome blue tentacle monsters!

Till next time!

All the WIP

The post today is definitely all WIP stuff. I am still working on Tyranids and getting the Space Hulk box done, but I've also added another project to the table.

I have two Shadows of Brimstone games that have a ton of miniatures that go with them. These minis are made from a decent plastic and the details on them are pretty good for being from a table top game. I believe these games were from a Kickstarter. Currently, I have all the player minis, the tentacle monsters, the two large guys, and several smaller things all put together and based.

Here is a pic of all that I have cleaned and based so far. There are so many more minis to go and like 4 more of the spider things which are a pain to clean. I'm pretty picky when it comes to mold lines so things have to be as clean as I can get them.

Here is a close up of several player miniatures and a few of the tentacles.

Here is another close up of some more player minis and the two big guys in the back. The big guys were pretty fun to put together, but they have some serious gap issues.

In this close up, there is a ton of spaces that need to be filled in and before I put them on a base, I'm going to have to fill those with green stuff. I know it's just for a table top game, but they still have to look nice. I also think that with all the similar minis that I might try the airbrush for all the major base colors and shading.

And lastly, more work on Tyranids! I have these guys with a few layers of blue and there is a little robot thing and a chalice. More work to come!

Till next time!

For this weeks main update, I have a few more Tyranids and some WIP shots of a few Reaper miniatures.

This guy is for a table top game and is going to be a quick paint. I worked mainly on the base color overall and the face and hair.

This little fairy was a test scheme for some Warhammer Fantasy Ogres. I was trying to go for a frostbit look, but this turned out more undead than I wanted.

Quick update today and more to come.

Till next time!

Retro Reaper

With the holidays coming up and with several projects going at once, I've not really gotten much done this week. I did say before that if something like this happened I would post an older figure that I've painted so that there is a post at least.

This is a Reaper miniature that I painted as a test scheme for my Warmachine Cyriss group. She was the first test scheme that didn't make the final cut, but still made a nice figure. This one used a nice cream, red, and purple scheme with yellow washes and a light blue color over the eyes. I kind of wanted the eyes to glow and the blue was a nice contrast to the other warm colors in the rest of the mini. This was mainly painted with lighting in mind rather than individual areas, like skin, clothing, and hair.

Till next time!

Last Blood Angel and Some Tyranids!

This week is more of the same as I am still trying to get more done on the Space Hulk figures.

Here is the last of the red Blood Angel guys. He has a Tyranid head so I wanted to wait till I was working on the rest of the Tyranids to finish him.

This Tyranid is mostly done except for the Blood Angel helmet and some scriptures, the name of which escapes me at this time.

All of these minis need to get a layer of Dulcotte to seal the paint, but this will be done when I have a few more to make it worth the entire spray.

Till next time!

Finished Minis, but still WIP!

This week was all about the Space Hulk minis. I was trying to get them done before Friday, but because of some things that have happened, I can take a little more time on them. As of right now, I have all but one of the Blood Angels completed and one is almost done. As for the Tyranids, I have one completely done, 4 are finished with all the major work, and 18 still need several major steps.

The only things I have going for me are that the Tyranid bases are almost all done, minus Blood Angel parts, and the first layer of the dark blue is done. After that, it gets easier and quicker with every step.

First up is the Blood Angel that I finished this earlier this week. He would have been done last week, except I still had the power sword to finish on him. I did a simple blue gradient and some touches of metal.

The other finished miniature is this awesome Tyranid. I followed the same step by step instructions from Tale of Painters blog. The longest part is, of course, the blue carapace with three layers of blues over the black base. After that are the two layers of purple, the layer of light pink, and the purple wash over all the purple areas. The last steps are super easy and consist of the tongue, teeth and claws, and the eyes.

For Saturday, I should have the last Blood Angel finished, at least 4 more Tyranids finished, several more to the wash stage, and a test figure for a new color scheme. I'm going to be painting some Warhammer Fantasy Ogres coming up here soon and I want to do a winter scheme on them. The biggest thing that I want to make sure to get right is the skin. Some pale dusky skin with some purple red touches and maybe some frostbit areas. I've got a reaper mini sitting in front of me right now that will serve as the test.

Till next time!

Normal Saturday Post!

Today will be a normal finished model Saturday post. Because of the nature of what I was working on and how I was working on it, the last few missed posts would have been pretty much the same.

Last Saturday was a crazy day. Between being out on the day that the temperature dropped like crazy and the fact that the city decided not to salt the roads, it was not a good day. Almost every bridge in the area had to be shut down due to icing and accidents. Add to that was all the traffic back up from people having to turn around and take detours to get to where they wanted to go. I just happen to be out in this trying to get to the downtown area to meet up with someone.

So with that and all the sameness of the Blood Angels that I was working on, I did not post last Saturday and Wednesday. I've decided that if that happens again, I will post a retro figure so at least there is a post.

Blood Angels!

I've gotten the Blood Angels from the Space Hulk box pretty much done. There are a few things here and there that I'm seeing, but every figure can use some more work on it. These were a little bit of a pain since there were so many details all over the mini. I ended up having to go back and paint other things out of order because I missed them.

Out of the ones I've been working on there are two that are not here. One is a guy with a power sword that I want to work on some more and the other is a guy holding a Tyranid skull. I wanted to save this for when I was working on the other Tyranids.

I absolutely love how these guys turned out. I think they look awesome and the steps I followed worked great! I have another client that has Blood Angels, but I was unsure of how to paint them so I've been doing other stuff for them. Now that I've done these, I really want to paint more.

Like I said, the hardest part about these is getting all the details in one shot without having to go back over them later. They also took a good bit of time, but I have another week to finish the Tyranids and since they are very organic, they should go quick.

I will have the other two Blood Angels finished for Wednesday and some Tyranids for the work in progress part.

Till next time!
