WIP Almost done!

For this WIP Wednesday I have a few figures that need to get done for the big Halloween game on Sunday. I know Sunday is after Halloween, but it's just the best day for us to play and it totally gave me an extra week to get all the figures done.

First up is the Mortarch. I've done more work on the base and mount. though it needs a little bit here and there as far as highlights and some clean up from assembling. I would say the base and mount are about 80% done. I will also start working on Neferata tonight and should hopefully have her completely finished in time for posting on Saturday. I'm going hiking on Friday so that will cut into my time a little, but oh well.

Lastly for this Wednesday, I have these guys. Some awesome Vampire Counts Bat swarms! These figures are some of the older Games Workshop bats that I've had sitting around and they look kind of bad considering some of the great bat swarm figures you can get now. All I can say is that I didn't have to spend money to buy them.

Quick post today, but I should have these guys finished for Saturday and possibly some spider swarms as well. We will just have to see!

Till next time!

Another Saturday has come, another figure is done...

Lots of stuff was finished this week and more was started!

I finally finished the bulk of the Warhammer Fantasy Halloween game figures that needed done and I'm thrilled at how it's all turning out. Other than the Mortarch, I didn't have to buy any of these figures. These have been sitting around for when I finished my Lizardmen (which is never going to happen, 4000 pts and still going strong). I'm must happy that I've finally found a use for them.

My Tomb King skeletons! All 15 are finished and ready to go!

The 10 Vampire Counts Crypt Guard painted in a spectral style are done and ready to kick some butt.

This is a shot of the base and mount for the Mortarch Neferata. Currently, I'm base painting it in sections and then I will go back and highlight when it's all put together. Nerferata herself is primed and will be put together and painted completely separate. She will be the last piece that is put on only when everything is done painted.

I was reading through Neferata's rules and found out that she can put vampires out on the table if a certain something happens! I have no vampire models! So along with the swarms that I want to get done, I might have to look for some quick vampire models as well.

Yay for even more painting!

Till next time!

Dat WIPWednesday tho!

This week is mostly finishing up work from last week and getting stuff ready for the Warhammer Fantasy Halloween game still. This week I finally finished the 15 Tomb King skeletons that were partially done last week and I've been working on the 10 Vampire Counts Crypt Guard. After these guys I still have to finish my awesome Mortarch and then when the 40mm bases I ordered come in I will finish the swarms. Then it will all be done!

Here are my Crypt Guard guys! I was sitting down, looking at these guys and decided that I didn't want to paint them normally. So for an easy paint job on a unit that I probably will not play again, I went with the spectral ghost scheme. These guys will fit in with the Mortarch and the ghosts that I have planned for the Halloween game and if I ever want to play the Vampire Counts again, I can just use the same scheme for quick painting.

If you've never seen this scheme, it is super easy! You can either prime them all white or black with white over top for some shadows and highlights. Then you brush some Citadel Nihilakh Oxide technical paint over the entire model. Drybrush some white and brush some Citadel Coelia Greenshade wash in the eye area and you are done! Super simple and it gives it a nice ghostly effect. I'm going to add in some Secret Weapon Fallout wash on the weapons to pop them a bit and I had to do something different with the banner.

The banner is a freehand female's face with a sugar skull motif on it. It looks pretty good on the banner and if I paint any more guys with banners, I will probably create a simplified version of it.

Alright! Saturday should have the finished Tomb Kings and Crypt Guard!

Till next time!

Is it WIP Wednesday again? Nope, it's a Saturday....

Apparently instead of finishing something completely this week, I decided to work on a bunch of stuff and not get any of it done. Between base painting Tomb King skeletons, working on the Mortarch, starting some exercise, and cleaning, I didn't finish anything.

The Progress!

The Mortarch is all cleaned and I'm working on priming the pieces in stages as I work on the main body. Base painting is coming along and the skulls inside are done. Next up is to highlight, wash, and add some color depth to certain parts, specifically the red. I'm sticking with the standard box color for Neferata. The base hasn't been finished as I need to make sure of the placement of the figure first before I glue anything. I will more than likely prime the tail and connected hip bones and paint it before attaching it to the base.

The Tomb Kings! These poor guys have been slowly getting base colors and are set up in groups with one guy mostly done, 4 others who need washes, 5 who need final green highlights and washes, and 5 more who need almost everything.I can't wait to finish these guys! They will be a big load off of my project list.

Finally, since this week wasn't much of an update of finished stuff, I've decided to include my first retro mini.

This is an awesome Warhammer Fantasy Wood Elf Sorceress that I completed earlier this year. For all of the Wood Elves that I have, I've used a variant color scheme of a corrupted wood. The trees and the ground are various shades of blue and purple with bright red leaves and lights all around. This look is heavily inspired by World of Warcraft as the color scheme comes from the Worgen starting area. The red used is a fluorescent over top a regular flat red. It's super bright and stands out beautifully.

Hopefully, I will get a few of the skeletons finished tomorrow while I'm at the game store and come home wanting to paint my heart out.

Till next time!

Halloween Game WIP

The WIP for this week is trying to get more of the stuff done for the Halloween game this year. We usually do a Halloween themed game every year at our game store and this year we are working with the new Nagash figures from GamesWorkshop. It's going to be an epic Warhammer Fantasy battle between the forces of Nagash and everyone else. I would normally play Lizardmen, since they are my main army, but I decided to join the undead forces this time!

I have a bunch of Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings that I'm going to be working on till the game and the big item is Neferata, Mortarch of Blood.

This guy is the main update for this week and it's mainly the color scheme. I've been sitting on these Tomb King skeletons for a bit and trying to figure out the colors I wanted to use. After several different tests I decided on this dark blue green and scorpion green combo with the bronze. This paint scheme uses 13 different paints, including 3 Secret Weapon washes. I'm still unsure about what color to use on the rim of the base though.

This dwarf lady is an older figure that I've had sitting around. I painted her at a convention paint and take a few years ago and I never liked the base she was on. I finally decided to change her base and fix her up a bit to get her looking nice. She is a Reaper mini and the paint job on her is alright, but it needs more. The colors need to be more vibrant and there needs to be more contrast. She is a very grey looking figure as far as value goes.

I will have her finished for Saturday and have this pic and the new one side by side to hopefully show a really great change!

The Mortarch figure is all cleaned and assembled as far as I can before painting. I have a few pieces primed and ready to go for paint, but I'm stuck on the colors.

Till next time!

Bones Dwarf #SpeedPaintChallenge!

It's Monday again and the #SpeedPaintChallenge is ready!

I got to pick the awesome Bones figure for this challenge and so I picked...

Reaper Bones 77074 Dain Deepaxe.

Rules: 1 figure, 7 colors and B/W, and 4 hours

And here is the turn around of the finished guy!

The figure took just a little over 3 hours and I absolutely love how he turned out! I decided to go with essentially a 2 color scheme though I used all my color slots that I had and it turned out awesome! It looks like there are two lights shining on this guy. A faded yellowed light from the front and a bright blue light from the back. He could be steeping inside after adventuring at night and the moon is at his back. Brilliant!

Paints used were:

Yellowed Bone (Reaper)
German Grey (Vallejo)
Seraphim Sepia (GW)
Cygnar Blue Base (P3)
Blue Tone (Army Painter)
Oiled Leather (Reaper)
Fair Skin (Reaper)
and Black and White (Vallejo)

WIP

Step 1 - I primed this guy all black. I like priming my Bones figures even though they say you don't need to.

Step 2 - Using the 2 main colors, Oiled Leather and Cygnar Blue Base, I defined the major light sources and made sure to keep the Tan to the front of the figure and the blue to the back. Some highlights were done at this stage on the tan with the Yellowed Bone color.

Step 3 - This is where I used the German Grey to bridge some of the gaps between the two major color areas. This was also the major stage of highlighting and the stage where the Sepia and Blue Tone came in. These pictures were taken after the first hour of working on this mini and I almost said Nailed it! and stopped. After a some time thinking, I figured I could do some more, even if it was minor.

Step 5 - I worked on even more highlights and washes.

Step 6 - More highlights and washes, but I was working on fixing some initial lighting issues and trying to get a little non-metallic metal going on.

Step 7 - I completely reworked the paint on the helmet and finalized the lighting.

Step 8 - This leads to the final image where I cleaned up some last problem areas and made it look awesome!

This guy looks great and was super fun to paint. I also know my next big thing to work on is the non-metallic metals. I know how to do some of it, but it can always use more work!

Happy #MiniatureMonday everyone!

Till next time!

Saturday Lesson Well Learned...

Lesson for today: Get the blog post done before you go watch the live streams on Twitch.

So, I was working on a last minute figure and having a good time watching a live streamer on Twitch play some League of Legends. I look down at the corner of the screen and see that it's 8:00 PM so I think, I have a ton of time to get the pics ready and post the blog for today. Then the player stops looking at their Twitter and gets back into the game, I look back to the corner and suddenly it's 11:00 PM! I go, "WHAT?!" Then realize....

The live streamer on Twitch is in a different time zone and is three hours behind me.

:(

I started to laugh while I scrambled to get my pictures and everything ready in time to post before midnight. Not sure why I really need to post before midnight, but that seems to be my thing. So, I've learned to pay attention to my own clock rather than rely on a streamer's time, since most of them aren't in the same time zone as me.

Well, enough about that! Time for some figures. Yay!

This first guy is Kommander Harkevich, a warcaster from the Khador faction in Warmachine. This guy and any other Khador are all commissions for others, since I don't really care for this faction much. They appeal more to me as far as game play goes than looks and I don't play this game much so I tend to paint them more for looks than anything. So I will stick to my Cyriss mainly.

This is Kovnik Andrei Malakov, a solo character from the Khador faction. He was painted in the standard Khador paint scheme along with the big guy above.

The three green guys are some awesome 40k Ork Boss Nobz! These guys are super quick painted for the game tomorrow and they will lead the Boyz and Nobz to victory over the Marines. Lots of yellow and I'm probably going to have to find a different way to paint the yellow because they way I have it now isn't working. The bright yellow paint I have takes brush lines way too easy and it very hard to keep smooth. I might have to try straight white and then yellow wash on top instead of yellows built up in layers.

Alright! We have awesome stuff done this week and I have more for next week, like usual. Almost finished with another figure that I will try to post tomorrow when I get home from the game store. I also spent so much time this week working on commission stuff and the minis for the Sunday game that I'm stuck, once again, doing the #speedpaintchallenge at the last minute on Sunday.

Time management! I needs more of it!

Till next time!

Work it, Work it, WIPWednesday!

Heyas all! This weeks WIPWednesday is all about tons of different stuff getting done. I finished all my zombies and my wolves yesterday, so that is 25 figures done. Priming a bunch of skeletons and since the weather is cool, I can prime white again! Yay! Other than that, spent the day getting little things done here and there. Working on some 40k Orks for a game on Sunday, some Warmachine Khador guys, a single mini commission for an awesome D&D player, a Space Marine Chaplain, and finally got to cleaning my Neferata, Mortarch of Blood.

:D

My Orks! These guys are two of the three Boss Nobz that I have to get painted to lead some Boyz and other Nobz. The Bad Moons are starting to take over our army, pushing the Deff Skullz to the minority!

I have this awesome commission figure that's going to be used for a D&D game. This Reaper figure is pretty delicate and a lot of bending of arms went on to get the crossed swords going. The character, like usual is very specific in race and clothing color, so I had to take a ton of notes. A lot of colors that I wouldn't have normally put together, but it should look good!

The Space Marine Chaplain with a Jetpack! This guy goes with the Ravenwing bikes that I was working on recently. He is only just started with the initial base layer for the armor.

And finally, I have a beautiful sunset pic that I was able to get tonight. Other than the neighbors chimney being in the way, it is a great view of sunset all year round.

Till next time!

Wow! It's already Saturday?!

So I'm sitting in front of the computer, watching IIjeriichoII live streaming Destiny on Twitch and packing stuff up for Sunday, and I totally realized that I need to post my pics for Saturday.

For this week, I was working on the Infinity model, the Maruts. She took a bit of work and the motivation really wasn't there, but once I got past the base paint stage it went much quicker.

She was done with the standard Infinity ALEPH paint scheme. The base was customized by me as the one that came with her was flat metal. I cut out the hexagons from a card stock, glued them down, and painted over top. I actually think it turned out pretty good!

Short post today, but I will have another update before WIP Wednesday.

Till next time!

WIP All the Bases!

It's Wednesday once again and of course that means it's WIP day... Yay?

The first half of this week has been trying to do anything but the three minis that are sitting on my desk. I've cleaned up some of my stuff, I've organized Magic The Gathering cards, and generally put off any painting because of these minis. Today was spent fixing up some Dreadball minis and working on the bases for some Warhammer Fantasy Undead guys.

These are two of twenty zombies that I've had painted for a while. They were sitting around unfinished since I don't play Vampire Counts for Warhammer Fantasy, but we've decided to have a Halloween game and so these guys have a purpose! The paint scheme on these are fairly simple with brown, pink, camo, and a bone color that I'm not sure of. Red wash, purple wash, and the old Devlin Mud to finish it. So now that they have some use, I can finish they're bases. These have some Vallejo Black Lava to start. Painting, wash, and dry brush to come later!

These are two of the five wolves that I've also had sitting around. They were originally owned by someone else, but I ended up with them. I had to first remove the flocking that was stuck to the bases and then I added some artist gel medium mixed with some sand and rock. They will get the usual standard treatment of black prime, paint, wash, and dry brush.

And last is another pic of the figure that has me stuck. I've talked about this one before, but she's twice the size of the regular Infinity minis and usually I wouldn't care about what was behind the gun, but I actually have to paint it with some detail this time. I'm going to work on her some more tonight and hopefully push past the blandness of the mini in it's current state. I think the main problem is that it's the same color scheme that I've been painting nonstop for several weeks now.

This is why my Warhammer Fantasy army is Lizardmen as I can change the color scheme for any unit at any time I want. All I have to say is that it was a different spawn.

I think it's also the reason why my #speedpaintchallenges have been crazy colors.

Oh well...

Till next time!
